Tree of life

The ‘Tree of life’ uses the metaphor of a tree to explore the strengths and resources we use throughout our life’s journey. Each part of the tree indicates a part of our story; the roots signify where we have come from, the trunk represents our values and strengths, the branches are our hopes and dreams, the leaves, significant people in our lives and the fruit and flowers, gifts we have given to and received from others.

Talking about suicide

Suicide can be a very difficult topic to raise if you notice changes in someone and you suspect that the person may have thoughts of wanting to die. On this course, we want to empower you to spot signs, raise awareness and know how to overcome the barrier of avoiding the subject.

We aim to support you to identify myths around suicide, spot possible signs of suicidal thoughts and use a talking practice steps approach:

Overcoming fatigue

This Recovery College course will explore what fatigue is, and how we can recognise the signs in ourselves. We will be exploring some possible triggers that can worsen our day to day experience. The main focus of the course will be on discussing some common strategies and tools to cope with fatigue symptoms and better manage the impact it has on our daily lives.

There will be also opportunities to look at some underlying theories on the topic of fatigue and how to apply them in in your life.

LGBT+ and mental health

This Recovery College course will explore the ways sexual identity and gender fluidity impact on mental health, wellbeing and access to mental health services. We will look at issues of sexual identity and difference and how these may impact on our mental health and wellbeing. We will also examine assumptions, stereotyping, stigma and discrimination in mental health services, look at how services respond to the LGBT community, and the impact on mental health and wellbeing.
