Supporting young people’s wellbeing across the system: learning from HeadStart

This digital event will bring together learning about cross-system approaches to supporting young people’s wellbeing with real-world examples of embedding these approaches within local areas from our HeadStart partnerships.

In recent years we have seen children and young people’s mental health needs increase and their wellbeing decline. The pandemic has further embedded these challenges and highlighted the need for whole-system approaches to prioritising the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. Recent policy developments give emphasis to the need for integrated approaches and cross-sector working to most effectively meet needs. The HeadStart partnerships have had a unique opportunity over the past five years to develop and test these kinds of approaches. In this session, we will share the research evidence and practice-based learning emerging from the HeadStart programme.

Speakers include Dr Emily Stapley and Dr Mia Eisenstadt from the Anna Freud Centre and colleagues from HeadStart Hull, HeadStart Cornwall and HeadStart Newham. Our keynote speaker is Michael Ungar, Professor of Social Work at Dalhousie University.

All attendees are invited to take part in further engagement and learning with The National Lottery Community Fund and the HeadStart partnerships in the 6-8 months following this session. This includes a follow-up discussion session on 17th November 2021 and the potential for one-to-one engagement with key staff members at the HeadStart partnerships. If you would like to opt-in we will share your name and email address with The National Lottery Community Fund so that you can be sent an invite the follow-up discussion on 17th November and kept informed about additional opportunities to engage with the learning from HeadStart. (You will be given the opportunity to opt-in to this on the last page of registration.
