Hosted by the Anna Freud Centre, this free seminar will take place online. We’ve heard a lot about kindness this week, and rightly so. But it’s easy to be kind when you aren’t challenged, but how do you extend kindness to young people with multiple problems?
Many of these young people have had little exposure to kindness. They have little sense of trust and without that trust it becomes difficult to engage. This is a loss to us all.
This seminar is the final of three, and is introduced by Professor Peter Fonagy. In it Dickon Bevington, Medical Director at the Anna Freud Centre will draw in his work with young people to multiple problems and the concept of ‘mentalizing’, to think about what is the science of kindness?
The seminar draws together some of the issues raised in earlier seminars and asks some fundamental questions. If we want to become a kinder society, how can we work as a society and as professionals to reach out to young people with complex needs and change our mindset as well as supporting them to tackle the problems that they face?
